The International A Class Catamaran Rules
The A Class Catamaran is controlled by the rules set down by the ISAF under the "Rules for the Divisions of Catamarans and The International C Class" (Last issued April 2007).
Method of Allocation of Places for Worlds 2009
The IACA Championship Rules describe the method to allocate entries to a World Championship.
The total number of participants is restricted to 100 entries including an allowance of 10 wild card entries. The Championship Rules describe how the wild card entries are allocated. The AIADCA can nominate three wild card entries.
Initial attribution of places is based upon 1 place per 10 registered National Fleet Members, with a maximum of 15 places per National Association. Thus if AIADCA has 60 members we are assured of an initial attribution of 6 places. Clearly it is in the interests of AIADCA members to have as many registered members nationally as possible.
All helmsmen shall be financial members of their National Association.
This clearly means that to be eligible for entry to the 2009 Worlds membership of AIADCA Is essential.
For the 2009 Worlds, the IACA allocates the contingent of entries per National Association on 1 July 2008. This allocation will be based on the Fleet Member list of the previous year, that is at 31 December 2007. Thus to maximise the number of Australian participants it is necessary to maximise AIADCA member numbers by 31 December 2007, just before the 2008 Nationals at Hervey Bay.
AIADCA Criteria for Nomination to the 2009 Worlds.
First
If a helmsman wishes to be eligible for the entry allocation for the 2009 Worlds, he must be a current member BEFORE THE 2008 NATIONALS at Hervey Bay.
Second
A helmsman who sails in the 2008 Nationals at Hervey Bay will be given preferential nomination over a member who does not sail at the Hervey Bay 2008 Nationals.
Third
If it is necessary, final overall places in the 2008 Nationals at Hervey Bay will decide the order of entry into the entry allocation.
Fourth
If further places are available, these will be assigned preferentially to helmsmen who are full financial members of the AIADCA as at 31st December 2007. If there are more helmsmen in this category than available places, then the qualifying helmsmen will be decided in a manner yet to be determined.
One option under consideration is a qualifying regatta.
International A Class AGM
