Memo from the AIADCA President

Dear Sailors,

I hope you have all been staying well.

Our sailing activities are slowly resuming as the COVID restrictions are gradually eased.

I wish to update you on 3 important matters .

  1. 2020-21 Australian Championships , Port Stephens 30th January – Feb 5th  2021
In October 2020 the licence to use the Port Stephens Sailing Club site was transferred from  Port Stephens Sailing and Aquatic  Club (PSSAQC) to the Newcastle Cruising Yacht Club (NCYC) with the members of PSSAQC also transitioning their membership to NCYC.
NCYC has confirmed their commitment to host our Championships at the Port Stephens site in Feb 2021. The AIADCA committee has carefully reviewed the various issues and angles and it is planned to proceed as scheduled.  Hopefully the COVID restrictions will further ease in the coming months and we will be able to have a genuine National Championships.
So, YES , notwithstanding  changes in the COVID situation ,  plan A remains to have the A Nationals in February 2021. NOR coming soon.
  2. IACA World Annual General Meeting – 28th November 2020.
Amendment to Championship Rule 16Electronic Communications.
The IACA Championship rules apply to World and European Championships.  The AIADCA has sponsored a motion that the Championship Rules be amended to allow Electronic Communications , in sync with the current RRS and processes with  WORLD SAILING ( previously ka ISAF). Attached is the proposed motion with explanatory notes. The AGM will consider the pros and  cons of this change. Consistent with being a development class,  the AIADCA believes the  A Class should move forward new and emerging technology. This change is ratified at IACA level by a vote of National Presidents , with weighting by number of members per country.
  3.  IACA World Annual General Meeting – 28th November 2020.
Amendment of the Class Rules to adopt the new definition of Classic Discipline.
Attached is the proposed amendment to formally adopt a definition of Classic. As this is a Class Rule change its ratification will require an individual vote of each eligible A Class member. If endorsed at the AGM, it will go to a worldwide ballot conducted by IACA.

Stay well, Sail well
