2012 A Class Catamaran National Titles

The 2012 A Class National Titles will be hosted by the Wangi Amateur Sailing Club, which is located on the northern aspect of the Wangi Peninsula on the western shores of Lake Macquarie.

Lake Macquarie is Australia’s largest saltwater lake, and is generally considered one of Australia’s best sailing venues.

Last year the question was posed to Nathan Outteridge, two time World 49er Champion, Olympian, and current World Moth Champion. “Nathan, you have sailed at many international sailing venues, which do you consider to be the best?’. Reply: “Oh Lake Garda in Italy, and Wangi on Lake Macquarie”

Those that competed at the Belmont Nationals and the Worlds will be familiar with the Lake.  The Wangi sailing track is the best or equal best area on the lake on which to set a sailing race. Aesthetically , the Wangi shoreline is  very pretty, with a long shoreline of grassy waterfront reserve, and typical Australian eucalypt bush.

Prevailing summer breezes are afternoon seabreezes, and south to south easterly winds.
